APFT Promotion Points Authorized

Soldiers recommended for SGT can get a maximum of 160 promotion points. Soldiers recommended for SSG can get a maximum of 100 promotion points. The minimum promotion points for passing scores are as follows: SGT – 40, and SSG – 15.

APFT Score Calculator

The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) is based on a 300 point scale. There are 3 different events involved in the APFT. These include a 2 mile run, 2 minutes of push ups, and 2 minutes of situps. Each of these events is worth 100 points. A passing score is a 180, with a minimum of 60 points in each event. To qualify for APFT promotion points, the soldier must achieve the minimum passing score. Soldiers are not eligible for promotion without a passing APFT score.

Permanent Profiles

Soldiers who are unable to take an aerobic or alternate APFT event due to a permanent physical profile will use their last APFT score until the Soldier is medically cleared to take the APFT. If the Soldier’s last score was a failing score, that Soldier will be granted a minimum qualifying score of 60 points for each APFT event.
Those Soldiers with permanent physical profiles for the sit-up and/ or push-ups events will be granted 60 points for each event waived and use the actual score for each event taken and must qualify on the 2-mile run or approved alternate test according to FM 21-20.
Effective 1 April 1995, Soldiers taking an alternate event for the 2-mile run and receiving a passing score receive a score for that event equal to the average of the scores for the other two events.

Temporary Profiles

Soldiers with a temporary profile that prohibits taking one or more events of the APFT will use their current APFT score provided it is not more than 1 year old at the time of the promotion point computation and the Soldier was not afforded the opportunity to take an APFT or an authorized alternate test.
If the Soldier was afforded the opportunity and failed, or through his or her own negligence (as determined by the unit Commander) failed to take the test, the Soldier will lose the APFT points.
